Abstract
This paper responds to Jody Azzouni's article 'Use and mention with respect to "know", "believe", "evidence", "justification", "hypothesis", and so on: A hot mess’ (2025). Azzouni criticizes several aspects of my book How to Take Skepticism Seriously (Oxford University Press, 2024), especially my discussion of evidence. This paper addresses Azzouni’s comments regarding evidence, justification, and skepticism. It closes with an extended discussion of methodological issues.
Keywords: epistemology, knowledge, Cartesian skepticism, evidence, ordinary language philosophy, lottery
