About

Kansas Library Association College and University Libraries Section Proceedings (KLACULS Proceedings) is a collection of papers based on presentations given at the Kansas Library Association College and University Libraries Section annual spring conference.

Focus and Scope

Kansas Library Association College and University Libraries Section Proceedings (KLACULS Proceedings) accepts submissions based on CULS conference presentations that demonstrate a meaningful connection to higher education. The journal is published annually by New Prairie Press as an open-access e-journal.

Submission Checklist

Before submitting a first draft, please ensure that your paper meets the criteria described below. Submissions that don't meet these requirements may be returned for revision before review can begin. 

Content Requirements & Formatting

  • Length: maximum 2500 words
    • The editor reserves the right to edit the paper for length if necessary. 
  • Identifying Information: Include on manuscript page 1:
    • Paper title
    • Names of all authors
    • Position titles of all authors
    • Institutional affiliations for all authors
    • Library affiliations for all authors
  • Reference and in-text citation formatting:
    • Follow the 7th edition of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (2020).
    • Where available, digital object identifiers (DOIs) and URLs must be provided and hotlinked in the reference list. 
    • A cover page is not required. 
    • For free APA guidance, refer to the Purdue University Online Writing Lab (Purdue OWL). 
  • Abstract: The proposal you submitted to the CULS Conference Committee will be used as the abstract; it may be edited slightly for length. 

File Requirements & Formatting

  • Acceptable file types: Microsoft Word is preferred, but other options include Google Docs, Open Office, or RTF. 
  • Margins: Set 1-inch document margins. 
  • Font: Use Times New Roman 12-point font or similar.
  • Paragraph spacing: Set to double. 
  • No headers/footers, page numbers, or other special formatting is required.

Authors who publish in this journal agree to the following terms:
  1. Authors retain copyright and grant the journal the right of first publication with the work simultaneously licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs License (CC BY-NC-ND) that allows others to share the work with an acknowledgement of the work's authorship and initial publication in this journal.
  2. Authors are able to enter into separate, additional contractual arrangements for the non-exclusive distribution of the journal's published version of the work (e.g., post it to an institutional repository or publish it in a book), with an acknowledgement of its initial publication in this journal.
  3. Authors are permitted and encouraged to post their work online (e.g., in institutional repositories or on their website) prior to and during the submission process, as it can lead to productive exchanges, as well as earlier and greater citation of published work. Peer Review

KLACULS Proceedings is a peer-reviewed journal with an editorial board spanning a range of Kansas regions and academic institutions. The journal's managing editor selects members of the peer review board based on their knowledge of academic librarianship and their record of research and publication. KLACULS Proceedings practices open peer review. 

Publication Fees

KLACULS Proceedings does not charge publication fees. 

Publication Cycle

The publication cycle begins following the annual spring CULS conference. 

6-8 weeks post-conference: First drafts due

2-3 months post-conference: Feedback to authors, including revision requests

4 months post-conference: Final draft deadline

5-6 months post-conference: Publication
