Special Issue Guidelines
- Potential editorial teams begin the process with a one-page proposal to the
JRRE editors.
• Outline a vision for and potential contribution of the special issue and
promotional plans.
• Include a timeline delineating approximate due dates for the call for
themed papers, initial submissions, peer review, revisions, and final drafts.
• Include brief statements describing each editor’s history and experience
with rural educational research and the identified theme of the special
issue. Attach a five-page CV for each editor.
• JRRE editors will communicate a decision about the special issue
within three to four weeks.
2. A special issue should include a minimum of three papers.
3. Each article should be double-blind peer-reviewed by at least two reviewers.
Special issue editors can serve as the third reviewer if needed.
4. The special issue will be accompanied by a brief introduction, no more than
five pages in length, to the themed issue and the individual papers. The
introduction can be written by the special issue editors or in collaboration
with the paper authors.
5. Consider including a short commentary, no more than five pages in length,
authored by someone other than the special issue organizers or the contributing
authors.
6. All special issue publications will be copy edited and formatted by the JRRE
copy editor. Special issue editors are tasked with ensuring appropriate
response time to all copy editor requests.
