The 2025 Kansas Field Research report presents K-State agronomic research examining crop management practices for corn, soybean, wheat and grain sorghum across multiple Kansas environments. Studies evaluated corn weed-control programs and row spacing, long-term nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium fertility in corn-soybean rotations, and early soybean planting, which continued to show stable or increased yields compared with more traditional later planting dates.   Wheat research focused on intensive management, nitrogen and fungicide applications, seeding rates and variety responses; one study found yields increased as seeding rates rose to 800,000 seeds per acre before leveling off.  Grain sorghum research examined simulated leaf loss, finding the greatest yield reductions when substantial defoliation occurred around flag leaf appearance or half bloom.
